APLASTIC ANEMIA

WHAT IS APLASTIC ANEMIA?????

Anemia as most of us know refers to a condition in which the blood has a lower number of red blood cells or if there is a deficiency of hemoglobin. Anemia is lower count of red blood cells only but to our surprise aplastic anemia patients have lower counts of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. This is because the bone marrow's stem cells are damaged. Bone marrow is a sponge-like tissue inside the bones. It makes stem cells that develop into red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Aplastic anemia can sometimes be termed as bone marrow failure. The effects of which can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated on time.
